When to Apply:
As an enrolled Doctoral student you can apply for an available research internship within 18 months of candidature (full time, or 36 months part time) on commencement of studies. Refer to types of research and development engagement equating to a research internship and examples of R&D activities.

How to Apply:
For advertised research internships, or placements involving R&D (such as arranged via a CRC or ITTC), or short term R&D related project related to employment, you'll need to obtain a written arrangement, agreed by you, and endorsed by your host organisation and the University. Approvals from your supervisor, the Graduate Research Co-ordinator, and the Graduate Research School are to be submitted via HDRhub. If you need a letter of support from your supervisor for the application you can request it in the HDRhub and then upload to HDRhub. Include the advert, any formal application or approval form saved as a pdf, jpeg or screenshot describing the research internship opportunity in full.

For a bespoke research internship with a REU partner organisation, you must complete the research internship agreement template, signed by yourself, your academic supervisor, your host organisation supervisor and submit it to the Graduate Research School via HDRhub to request approval. You may not commence an internship until the agreement is fully executed and all information is received and approved via HDRhub. If your 18-month window is looming, then negotiate a Letter of Intent with a REU partner organisation and submit the Letter (intending a future research internship) via HDRhub. Refer to Letter template.
  1. Login to HDRhub.
  2. Under Development, click Research end user engagement (REUE) tab
  3. Click Apply for REUE tab and complete the form fields, upload your documents, and save.
Your supervisors will then be advised, and GRS notified to progress your application.
