A Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN) is the University's official notification of your enrolment, current at the census date during which you undertook study. It contains information to be reported to the Government and/or to the Taxation Office, notifying them of the financial assistance you have received. This will include:
-
Your HECS-HELP, FEE-HELP or OS-HELP loan debt
-
Your student contribution for each enrolled unit
-
Your Student Learning Entitlement (SLE) consumption
-
Any upfront payments you have made, and
-
Any discounts you have received.
The CAN replaces HECS and PELS Notice of Liability (these have not been used since 2005).
Under the Higher Education Support Act (2003), institutions are legally required to provide you with a Commonwealth Assistance Notice (eCAN via your studentConnect) if you have obtained HECS-HELP, OS-HELP or FEE-HELP assistance and/or if you are a Commonwealth Supported student.
Notices are issued electronically on studentConnect. You will also be notified via email, unless you have lodged a "Request for Hardcopy Documents" form at the Student Administration Enquiry Counter (Hackett Hall, Crawley Campus). You can access your most recent Notice via studentConnect. Notices that pertain to other fee periods generally can only be issued as hardcopy documents. Please contact the Student Administration Fees Team should you require any previous notices via the ipoint 'Ask a Question' tab.
