Sometimes print jobs are delayed due to the size or format of the documents. In addition, sometimes there is a high volume of print jobs in the global printing queue causing delays. General printing tips are available, which may help if your document fails or takes a long time to print. Most importantly, the file size should be under 250MB.
Some common reasons for long waiting times are:
- Large files over 250MB or 100 pages. Split files up into parts, especially for theses and PowerPoint slides. Remember, printing more than one slide to a page still requires that each slide be rendered separately. There will be delays when printing more than one slide to a page.
- Trying to print too many documents at a time. This is especially true for larger documents such as lecture slides - try only sending two or three lectures to print at a time.
- Files with layers. When printing files with many layers (usually images, diagrams, and other Creative Cloud documents) remember to save a copy as a flattened image or without layers (save PDFs without the "editable PDF" option) and print that version.
- Uploading documents to the Webprint/Papercut website during a busy period, such as weeks when assignments are due or around exam time. Documents sent to print via Webprint are placed in a queue for processing one-by-one along with every other Webprint print job submitted - at peak times this can take one or more hours. You can skip this processing queue by printing from a UWA computer or from your own device using Mobility Print.
