If you are an eligible student accessing HECS-HELP
You need to provide your Tax File Number (TFN) on your "Request for Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP" form that you fill in on studentConnect if you are eligible for HECS-HELP and you:

  • Wish to obtain a HECS-HELP loan for all or part of your student contribution; OR
  • You are paying your student contribution up front but, as a safety net, want to ensure that if you fail to make the payment on or before the census date you can still obtain a HECS-HELP loan.

If you have not paid your student contribution in full on or before the census date (or an earlier date set by UWA) and you did not provide your TFN on or before the census date, UWA will cancel your unit(s) enrolment as a Commonwealth supported student.

If you are an eligible student accessing FEE-HELP
You will be asked to provide your TFN when completing and signing the "Request for FEE-HELP assistance" form. If you choose not to provide your TFN, you will not be entitled to FEE-HELP.

If you cannot quote your TFN when you enrol, you should either obtain a TFN or a "Certificate of application for a TFN" from the Tax Office stating that you have applied for one, and then provide that certificate to Student Administration on or before the census date.

If you cannot quote your TFN or supply a Certificate of application for a TFN on or before the census date, you will not be entitled to FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP.
