Broadening units explained
All students taking an undergraduate bachelors degree at UWA must complete at least four broadening units.
Broadening units are designed to ensure graduates have a well-rounded education across a broad range of areas to meet the needs of employers and professional organisations within a global workforce. Broadening units can be taken separately or as part of a major and fall into two categories - A and B.
Category A broadening units have as their main focus some aspect of the globalised and culturally diverse environment. To satisfy broadening requirements you must include at least one Category A broadening unit. A wide range of units in different disciplines have been approved as Category A broadening units. Refer to the broadening requirements for your course, to check which units count as Category A broadening for you.
Category B broadening units can be chosen from any discipline outside the 'knowledge area' of your degree-specific major.
Visit the online UWA Handbook for further information on broadening requirements and the full list of Category A and B broadening units.
If you need further advice on choosing broadening units contact a student adviser from your assigned Student Advising Office displayed on your studentConnect.
