Language skill level assessments for students

I have an 'invalid' language unit, what do I do next?

For students who have not studied language at UWA or at WACE level and are not sure what language unit will suit their skill level, please seek assessment as follows:
 
Language Unit Instruction
Chinese CHIN
You are required to complete a Language Placement Test to determine which unit is suitable for your language skill level.
See Chinese Placement Test for more information.

Chinese majors start in Semester 1.
CHIN1401 Chinese 1 only runs in Semester 1.

Semester 2
For students who have some Chinese language background and are seeking to complete an elective and/or a major variation commencing midyear, please contact:
French FREN
If you have no (or very little) knowledge of French, you can enrol in FREN1401. This unit has no prerequisites.
 
If you have some knowledge of French and are unsure of your skill level please please Email Us and we will provide you with a copy of the French diagnostic test. 

Once you have completed the test forward it to:
German GRMN
If you have no (or very little) knowledge of German, you can enrol in GRMN1401. This unit has no prerequisites.
 
If you have some knowledge of German and are unsure of your skill level, please contact Dale Adams. You will be able to complete a diagnostic test to determine the most appropriate unit for you. 
Indonesian INDO
You will be tested during Week 1 classes to ensure you are in the right class for your language skill level.

Italian ITAL
You are required to complete a diagnostic test. To arrange an in-person test contact:
Japanese JAPN
You are required to complete a diagnostic test. To arrange an in-person test contact:
Korean KORE
You are required to complete a diagnostic test. To arrange an in-person test contact:
Spanish SPAN
You are required to complete an online diagnostic test.
 
Important: Please ensure to include your student number when completing the test.
 
We encourage students to seek assessment BEFORE semester start. If you have an enquiry about an invalid unit, please email your Student Advising Office via Email Us.
