OpenAthens is a single sign-on (SSO) authentication service for Library resources using your UniID credentials. It enables secure and reliable access both on and off campus without needing to login repeatedly.

If you have already signed in (e.g. through the LMS, or by accessing the resource via OneSearch) you will not need to login again.

Signing into OpenAthens
Each publisher website is slightly different. If there is a statement such as 'Access provided by University of Western Australia Library' then you are already connected. Otherwise:
  • Look for a login link, usually located at the top right of the screen e.g. Institutional Login, Library Login, or OpenAthens
  • Select Institutional Login to access the list of institutions
  • Search for 'University of Western Australia" in the list. If there are multiple options, choose the one that includes OpenAthens
  • Enter your UniID details when prompted
  • Confirm you are connected to the UWA subscription by looking for a statement at the top of the site such as 'Access provided by University of Western Australia Library'
Using OpenAthens across different browsers and devices

OpenAthens uses cookies to recognise your device. You will be asked to log in again if you:

  • switch browsers (e.g. from Firefox to Chrome)
  • switch devices (e.g. from a laptop to a mobile)
  • clear your cookies
OpenAthens and EndNote
To set up EndNote Find Full Text for off-campus access, please refer to the EndNote Guide.
