What are the teaching periods for HDR candidates?

Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students are enrolled in the following teaching periods:

Teaching period Start date End date Census date
RS1 1 January 30 June 31 March
RS2 1 July 31 December 31 August
RSSA 1 January 31 March 22 January
RSSB 1 April 30 June 30 June
RSSC 1 July 31 August 16 July
RSSD 1 September 31 December 31 December

Teaching periods are used to calculate your Equivalent Full Time Study Load (EFTSL), which is reported within the University and externally to Government. It's therefore important that your EFTSL is calculated correctly.

Changes between full-time and part-time enrolment and suspension of candidature will normally be approved only for full teaching periods, except in exceptional circumstances beyond the student's control. Exceptional circumstances may include a sudden serious illness, but do not include employment commitments (see your course rules for further information).
