Meeting other first year students

Are there any programs where I can meet other first year students?

The UniMentor program will link you with a senior student mentor from your study area and give you the opportunity to meet other first year students. Your mentor is assigned a small group of new students from the same study area, so it's a great way to start building your networks at UWA. You will be linked with your mentor prior to Orientation and meet up with them again during the semester at various UniMentor social events. Your mentor will answer questions and provide advice about settling into campus life, studying at UWA and, for our International students, living in Perth. Your mentor is available to support you during your first year at UWA. Contact can be in person or via email, Facebook or other electronic means. To request a UniMentor, sign up here.

ConnectMe@UWA can connect students who are new to Perth (including International students) with other students prior to your arrival at UWA. Your mentor will remain in contact with you during the course of the semester. Through the program you will have the opportunity to attend further social and networking events and will be introduced to other new and existing UWA students. We will also help you connect to services and support to assist you to settle into your studies.

The UWA Student Guild has over 140 clubs and societies, many of which will run welcome events for new students to meet each other and find out about the club. Many clubs also elect a ‘Fresher Representative’ in the first few weeks of Uni – a great way for first year students to get involved!
