As a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) student, you can apply for an absence without suspension when you will be away from your research for:
- less than 30 days, or
- any period of overseas travel (personal or research related).
Applications for an absence without suspension are submitted in HDRhub.
- Log in to HDRhub using your student ID.
- Go to My project > Absence without suspension > Start a new application.
- Select your requested leave type and provide your absence start date and end date

University Shutdown Period
Annual recreational leave taken during the official university shutdown period will not be deducted from your entitled 20 working days of annual leave. While you do not need to submit an absence without suspension for this period, you must let your supervisors know of any travel or holiday plans. Your milestone and thesis deadlines will remain the same. Refer to the Important Dates page for this year's university shutdown dates
