It’s never too early or too late to start thinking about what you want to do in the future and building the skills and experience that will help you succeed.
Career Registration (CR) is a set of three questions you need to answer during your enrolment process, that helps you reflect on your career planning and experience so far. Your answers let us tailor opportunities, advice and events to your needs.
By answering these questions, you’ll find out what stage you are in your career journey, and get advice and support tailored to your needs.
The three areas we ask about:
- Career readiness – choose the statement that best matches where you are now.
- Experience to date – select the type(s) of work experience you currently have (it is okay if you have none yet).
- Career interests – pick the industries/sectors you are curious about or aiming for.

Other common questions
1. Why does UWA ask every student to complete Career Registration?
Career support works best when it matches your current needs. Career Registration helps UWA connect all students with support, opportunities and resources that are more relevant to their goals and experience.
2. Can I change my answers after I complete enrolment?
Yes. You can update your answers at any time. Navigate to studentConnect → Personal Details → Career Registration.
3. Do I need to prepare anything before I answer?
No. Answer based on your current situation, experience and interests. There are no right or wrong answers. Career Registration is not a test.
4. I do not know what career I want yet. How should I answer?
Choose the option that best reflects where you are now. It is okay to be unsure or still exploring. You can update your answers as your goals develop.
5. Will my answers lock me into one career pathway?
No. Your responses help UWA understand what support may be useful to you. They do not restrict what services, events or opportunities you can access.
6. I have no work experience. Will this affect the support I receive?
No. Many students are still building experience. Telling us you have none helps UWA direct beginner-friendly workshops, networking events and skills programs to you.
7. I already have a job or significant experience. Is Career Registration still relevant?
Yes. Your answers help UWA connect you with more advanced opportunities such as mentoring, leadership programs and employer networking suited to your current stage.
8. Can I select more than one industry or sector?
Yes. Select all areas that reflect your current interests. UWA keeps career communications relevant, so you will not receive messages about every industry you select.
9. I am thinking about changing career direction. How should I answer?
Answer based on the direction you are considering now. You can update your responses when your plans change.
10. My degree does not lead to one clear career path. How should I answer?
Select the industries or sectors that interest you most at this point. You can update your answers as your thinking develops.
11. I am an international student. Is Career Registration relevant to me?
Yes. Career Registration applies to all students, including international students. Your answers help UWA connect you with employer events, resources and support relevant to your situation in Australia.
12. Who can see my answers?
Your individual responses are accessible only to UWA career support staff. Academic staff and employers do not see individual responses. Other students have no access to your responses. Reporting to other areas of the University uses aggregated, de-identified data only.
13. Does Career Registration appear on my academic transcript?
No. It is not part of your academic record and has no effect on your grades, fees, scholarships or visa.
14. How will I know what support is available to me?
You will receive relevant communications about events, opportunities and services after the enrolment period closes. This may include workshops, mentoring, career resources, employer events and job opportunities. You can also access UWA career support directly through the careers website.
