What is a co-curricular activity?
A co-curricular activity is an approved activity, program or learning experience that is separate to, but complements academic learning, often contributing to a student’s personal and professional development. Activities are generally ungraded and not eligible for academic credit (with some exceptions). Students must satisfy and complete any eligibility requirements set by the coordinators of the co-curricular activity.
How do I know if an activity is part of UWA's badging program?
Co-curricular activities that are part of the badging program have been assessed by UWA Advance and approved for a badge. UWA Advance badges will be listed on Milestone.
Are all co-curricular activities awarded a badge when they are completed?
Each approved co-curricular activity has been assessed against the awarding criteria. Coordinators of the activity or program (e.g. Student Life, LWAG, UniHall, etc) set the eligibility criteria that has to be achieved by a UWA student. Once completed, the student will be emailed details of their digital badge, which can be accessed through SSO and a link can be shared on social media platforms like LinkedIn.
Do I have to apply to have a badge awarded to me?
Your badge will be awarded to you within the calendar year of completing the activity or program. You will receive the digital badge through student email. You will not have to apply for an approved badge as the Activity Coordinator will keep a record of your participation.
How can I share my badge?
Your email notification of the digital badge will link you to Milestone, which will include the UWA certified meta-data of the badge and the shareable links to social media platforms.
Can I earn multiple badges?
Yes, depending if you fit the eligibility requirements and complete the activity to the coordinator's satisfaction. Some UWA Advance activities have tiered levels, which reward participation on different criteria - Foundation, Standard and Advanced.
Can I earn the same badge multiple times?
Due to the meta-data, a UWA Advance digital badge can only be awarded once to a student. Certain programs will have tiered badges to reward students who commit hours to an activity for more than one year e.g. achieving a Foundation badge in the first year of volunteering, a Standard badge in the second year, etc.
