Prerequisites for the Juris Doctor

Are the Law and Society major or the Business Law major pre-requisites for the Juris Doctor (JD)?

The Law and Society major and/or the Business Law major are not required for entry into the Juris Doctor (JD).

The criteria for selection into the UWA JD via the standard pathway are:

  • a Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; and
  • a UWA Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 65 per cent, or equivalent*; or
  • a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 5.5 (out of 7.0), or equivalent*

Applications will be ranked based upon the WAM and/or GPA. Admission will be awarded to the highest ranked applicants who fall within the intake quota for that year.

*All completed tertiary studies will be used when calculating the WAM and GPA. The GPA may be calculated by disregarding the lowest 4 results in the applicant's undergraduate studies, provided that the final calculation is based on a minimum of 16 units,
