A self-sourced internship is one that a student arranges for themselves directly with a host organisation. There are many benefits to this approach; you are not competing with other students for an opportunity and you can approach an organisation of your choice.

Self-sourced internships for WIL still need to be approved by the WIL Team and the first step is to notify the WIL Team that you are intending to self-source and the Team will generate a Self-Sourced Internship Form (SSIPF) in your SONIA profile. You will need to fill this in and the WIL Team will then contact your Host organisation for further information in order to approve the internship.

Your hours only count towards your 100 internship hours once you have WIL Team approval and have been sent a confirmation to enrol email.

There are many resources for supporting the self-sourced internship process on the SONIA Homepage and in the attached guide.
